EXHIBITION SURREALISTS PIECES LIEGE

Looking for a cultural activity to do in Liege? You are an art lover; you like to enrich the mind? Do not miss the exhibition of surrealist pieces at Waroux Castle!

The exhibition’s theme is From Salvador Dali to Rene Magritte the surrealist universe …To extend or arrange a visit to the Magritte Museum in Brussels, immerse you in the world of surrealist artists.

A little touch of history for those who do not know yet this literary and artistic movement: Surrealism was created in early 20th century and became known over the century by artists such Fûssli, Goya, Arcimbolo, Bash, Miro or Magritte. These authors draw on psychology, especially research of Sigmund Freud on the unconscious and the conflicts with morality. They use random in their work which has created a new artistic game “the exquisite corpse.”

This game requires several “players” who have to write successively on a sheet of paper a little bit of sentence without seeing the beginning of the sentence. This leads to sentences without logical but often humorous. The writer André Breton was inspired of this game to create “poem-collages”. A variant of this game is to continue a drawing rather than a sentence.

The “surrealist collage” is also one of the techniques of surrealist writers. You have to stick on a same work lot of pictures which come from various sources to create new visual associations.

If you wish to see the results of these different techniques and find others which have inspired the surrealist artists such as rubbing, visit the Waroux castle between March 12 and July 17.

If you want to go with your family, you might know that a specific and playful course will be devoted to children.
