RECIPE: COUGNOUS

Cougnous

Cougnous, also known as “Little angels” or “Bread of Jesus” because they are shaped like the infant Jesus in his swaddling clothes, have been flying off the shelves of Belgian bakeries like hotcakes throughout December.

Everyone knows real, traditional Cougnous, as they look like tiny golden angels, glistening with wet icing using caramelised sugar, inlaid with tiny raisins.
You can make them yourself (here): feel free to use more sugar than the recipe suggests;-) or you can buy them ready-made:

In Liège: “Une Gaufrette Saperlipopette!
In Brussels: “Boulangerie de Meulemeester“.

GOOD IDEA: 100% BELGIAN GIFTS

Furnishings that can be personalised, glasses that eat themselves; amusing, entrancing jewellery or a beer called Ginette.

Although Brussels and Liège are well-placed for Christmas markets (which have proven) as the best in the world, you’re sure to find wonderful gifts at some of the country’s creator and designer shops!

Don’t miss:
A choice of 6 Brussels Pop Stores where you can buy unique, original products and, in Liège, Wattitude, the absolute must for Walloon Food, Fashion & Design.

ADDRESS : YETI – A MODERN CANTEEN

Yeti

Enjoy a short Belgian-Japanese taster break…

Maxime will take good care of us (and of our waistlines. But watch out: starving ogres and yetis can be greedy!), our morale and our taste-buds, welcoming us to her cosy, friendly retreat at brunchtime or lunchtime to serve up a Bento – always delicious, fresh and innovative!

WITH THE FAMILY : BRUSSELS MUSHROOMS!

Champignons

Go mushroom-picking in the nooks and crannies of Tour & Taxi!

A young team from Brussels, just getting started, checked out the sites, and now offers guided tours with explanations, picking and tasting, in several languages, on weekday evenings or at weekends.

You can also get an oyster mushroom kit containing coffee grounds and straw, which will grow and should be kept in the refrigerator (There you go – Another Christmas gift idea!).

CULTURE : A FONDUE SAVOYARDE YES, BUT IN A HORSE-DRAWN CART!

fondue

This is the ideal way to “visit” the Ardennes mountain range and Wallonia: in a novel “Chariot à fondue”!

This idea was devised for people who like to explore the beautiful Ardennes countryside, enjoying the anecdotes of an enthusiastic guide, for those who love to get out in the open air and get around in a horse-drawn cart, but it is also for those food-lovers keen on discovering local produce, for with the “Chariot à fondue”, you can do it all at once!

WE LOVE IT: “NON PEUT-ÊTRE”!

Nonpeutetre

Non Peut-être” is the ideal Facebook page of the moment to find out what you want to know, and find what you want to find in Brussels!

Here’s a friend who really means well: every day, the page provides us with crucial information on the Capital. With this friend, you’ll know Brussels like the back of your hand:

Five cobblers, five places to get a bowl of soup, five things to do at weekends, five golf or crazy-golf clubs, five everyday expressions, five shops in the district of Louise, etc.

Christmas markets are here in Brussels and Liege!

marchenoelliege

Good news! While winter is setting in, the Christmas markets are the ideal place to meet over a glass of mulled wine, skate laps or try the traditional dishes from here and elsewhere… and this year there are a lot of new things to discover!

In Brussels, the famous Christmas market named “Plaisir d’Hiver” now spreads from the Grand-Place to the Place de la Monnaie, where you will find the ice skating rink for the pleasure of everyone! You will also enjoy numerous Christmas animations (pageants, fireworks, Ferris Wheel…) as well as a sound and light show on the Grand-Place.

In Liege, you will discover the biggest and oldest Belgian Christmas market! From the Place de la Cathédrale to the Place du Marché, we fall under the spell of the products of the craftsmen from all over the Walloon Region and the Christmas decorations.

In Belgium, you won’t get bored in December!

Have a look at the Clarisses 7 before/after!

This is the amazing work of Véronique Picinati di Torcello (Interior Shopper) in our new apartment Clarisses 7!

She put a real emphasis on the spacious living room and the brightness of the bedrooms by a sober decoration and an uncluttered style, always making sure that the tenant will enjoy its comfort.

Ideal for those who want both a spacious and well located apartment !
